George Leith

Obituary of George Leith

I would like to say a few words about our dad. Our dad was our biggest hero when we were younger. He was a determined, hardworking man who loved life and made sure he enjoyed it.

George Leith was born in a small District called Camberwell in the parish of St. Mary in Jamaica to parents, Clarice and Hubert Leith. He grew up with one brother and three sisters.  His Parents were hard working and reared their children up in the Jehovah’s Witness faith where they were disciplined and ambitious. Our dad grew from a humble young man to a humble man. His childhood shaped his life. He was hard working, determined, and a very proud man who cared a lot for his family. He migrated to the states in the early 1970’s where the relationship with his children grew a bit distant partly because communication wasn’t as prevalent as it is today. He did what he could, however, to be supportive while he was away.

He was a skilled barber for most of his life and did that for years even after migrating to the United States. Barbering was still his passion. He also operated a club for a few years. After he migrated to the states in the early 1970’s, he lived in New York until he became ill in the late part of 2016. His daughters, Joann, Opal and Grace then took him to Florida, where he lived with Opal for a few months.  As his health continued to deteriorate, she was unable to continue to provide care for him at home any longer.  He then lived in a nursing home until his failing health caused a hospital admission for several weeks. He shortly thereafter succumbed peacefully to his health issues on the 19th of July 2017.

He did enjoy his life however, and loved traveling as he did plenty of it. He loved women and made sure beautiful children came out of his encounters with women who made lasting impressions on him.

We would like to thank everyone for attending today. I know that many of you traveled long distances to be here. We know that he is pleased to see us all together here celebrating his life.  He had an immense love for us all.

We love you dad and wish that we had more time with you to make up for the years we were all apart. We know that you left to try to make a better life so you could have taken care of us. You did what you could and we are grateful for what you did, most of all thank you for our existence so we will be able to carry on your legacy.

He leaves behind, Sons, Shaun, George, Dalton, Paul, and Karl; Daughters, Joann, Grace, Opal, Jackie, and a host of grandkids and great-grand kids.

We are very proud of everything our dad has accomplished, mostly this beautiful family that he has sown the seeds to grow. Dad, we will miss you every day and will never forget you.
